Diagnosis

Metatarsal Stress fracture.
I am writing in red because that's how it feels. Red hot pulsing aching pain.

I'm not going to take a lot of time feeling pity for myself. I was fairly depressed about this on Monday and Tuesday as I came to realize this is probably what was going on. I felt sorry for myself. I cried. I slammed a few things around. (not the foot though! )
Now, I guess I have to stop and feel lucky. I competed in Ironman Lake Placid and basically had the race of my life. I had a few strange pains after that-switched to deep water running-and held whatever was going on in there off for a few more months. I continued to run hard and long for a few more months. I got to the starting line in Kona.
And I did it. Every day I smile at my finisher's medal.
This annoying injury could have struck me on July 10th. Or October 3rd. But it didn't. It waited until November. And Hey! it's hunting season in my back yard so I guess running wasn't meant to be right now anyway! But seriously, it is November. I am ok. I will be just fine. I can swim. I can bike. I can do lots of core work.
I caught it early and it will heal.
From here I move forward. I will hope for the pain to stop. I will take lots of Vit D and Calcium and my Multivitamin of course. I will eat lots of healthy food. I am off my off-season splurge fest.
Tomorrrow...I am off to substitute teach in a 4th grade classroom! Wish me luck!

Ooooo ... Mrs. Bancroft good luck with the 4th graders! You are smart to be grateful cause you had one hell of a season. Tell your foot "Thank you!" If I know you, it won't be long before you're back on your feet running.

Glad you are feeling OK about this. You'll be back running in no time. Have you tried the Viactiv chocolate calcim chews? They taste great and have vit D added!

Oh Ange - hang in there! I'm so sorry this happened....my heart goes out to you! But you're doing a great job keeping things in perspective... and you caught it EARLY!!! That is key! Long term this will be fine... I'm thinking of you and sending good vibes!!

Oh - as for the off-season junk food fest... We're in the same boat. I'm beginning to eat healthy. Finally :)

Darn it!! Might be a blessing in disguise though (I know, last thing you want to hear) because at the very least it will ensure that you take your time slowly getting back into running shape which in the long run will help big time!! And the good thing about triathlon is there are other sports to keep you busy in the mean time. :) Hang in there and enjoy those 4th graders! :)

Well, that sucks, but at the same time, lucky you that it happened now instead of say, 8 weeks ago when mine struck. Let it rest, be careful even with the wall pushes in swimming. Wear the stupid shoe they want you to wear. And know that in a few weeks, you'll be fine and pain free.

Oh no! Sounds like you're in a good space about it and it's really as good of circumstances as you can hope. Get well soon.

I bet that boot is wicked sexy. Not as sexy as that full arm cast for the rotator cuff, though...:)
By the time you finish healing you will be like a superstud on that bosu ball... ! That's something good, right? Are they giving you anything for the pain? Can you at least take ibuprofen or something? I'm sorry...

So sorry :( Stress fx are annoying!!! I am going for another MRI of my hip to see what is up with my femur since I can't get rid of the pain that I have had since Feb.

Ange, seriously, if it was going to happen, you really couldn't have asked for a better time! It's November. And as you said, you can do PLENTY of other work to keep your fitness up - it's not like you are on bed rest for 3 months!

Good luck subbing!!!!!!!

Oh I am sorry. You know the body is weird, and also smart at the same time. I got ITB syndrome about 2 weeks after a marathon and i swear it came out of nowhere! The D3 should help, my MD has had me taking that for a year now.
And like you said, just plain rest and non impact will heal that up fast.
Good luck with the teaching. !!! I hope it is fun, 4th graders are the best. The transition btwn " innocence and too cool for school!"
